Bay Rodders 2011 News Bay Rodders 45th Anniversary Birthday Bash Mystery Cruise Well I have to say I'm feeling a little second hand this afternoon. Yesterday the 29th of October was the Bay Rodders 45th birthday bash and we didn't finish celebrating until the wee hours of the morning. What a fantastic day and evening! The day started at Fraser Cove Burger King about 1:30pm, with approximately 30 cars parking up to do a mystery cruise; Dave and Kim McNaughton felt it appropriate to park in a disabled car park, which sort of answers a lots of questions I had, but that's still a fine.
There was a bit of rain but nothing that would dampen Bay Rodders spirit, some bought umbrella's others bought rain coats, but Lynne Paton bought a black plastic bag, which earnt her the name "The Bay Rodders Bag".
As members huddled for shelter from the rain and caught up, they had the opportunity to talk Stuart Crosby the Mayor of Tauranga, who especially came to be with Bay Rodders and was taken for a cruise in Les Chesham's hot rod, and some members like Dave Gibson were asked to pose for photo's and provide details to the Bay News.
Once our illustrious President Deano Anderson and his lovely wife Claire arrived the cruise began with people given different sheets as there were two cruises running at the same time in different directions - ingenious! The first challenge was outside Container Recyclers where Leanne and Steve Milne had three Cones each with a challenge under. People pick whether they are going to do Dare, Share or Go it Alone and then they pick a cone for their challenge to either roll 2 drums at the same time around a marker as Deano and Claire were photographed doing, or making a donation the Milne/Paton drinking fund or play the memory game. President Deano and his wife Claire were the first on the scene, unfortunately the Buick was sporting a rather nasty side ding kindly marked with lipstick "Claire did this!!!" sorry Claire you probably feel stink enough as it is, but that's a fine.
Unfortunately there were not a lot of donations ($34), to the Kids Christmas fund as people spotted the other side of the bucket "Milne and Paton drinking fun". I heard some put gum in the fund (rumour has it that was a Forlong?), others a tooth pick and one member Buck actually asked for $5 change for his $10. Nevermind Leanne and Lynne, there was never going to be enough in the bucket to supporting your drinking habits.
Leaving the first challenge was a compulsory skid up the hill, I think it was a first equal between Keith and Deano, but there were a few fearful moments from my GTS so I quickly departed the scene and race to the next challenge.
While cruising down Devonport Road and along the Strand drivers and passengers had to wave like the Queen to everyone checking out their ride - including me man everyone thought I was extremely popular - cool!

In order to gain an extra 10 points, cruisers were asked to stop at the Mill Liquorsave and con the staff into giving them a small Mill flag, but some will have to practice their conning technique as I saw many cruisers paying for their flags!
Many including Kim Poynton of course took the opportunity to stock up on alcohol, typical Bay Rodders they can't run into liquor place without buying some booze...
From the Mill there was a race to the second challenge, though many I think wish they hadn't raced as they again were given three cones with challenges under them. Cruisers had to either drink a can of Coke through a straw (many of the straws had been punctured with 50 small pin holes making the drinking really hard work!), eat a jelly snake or eat a weekbix. Grant Forlong really struggled with his weekbix, so Kim and Cam Poynton adopted a kissing approach to their weetbix ...
... french kissing also became the snake technique, it was rather sweet watching all the happy couples bonding...
...as for the belching and burping after sculling a can of coke through a punctured straw ... well that was enough for me, so off to the next stop I headed...
Just past Classic Flyers
cruisers were instructed to take the 7th exit at the roundabout, which
required them to go around the roundabout two times, many struggled
counting to seven with one hand on steering wheel and only five fingers
on the other hand, so there were often bunches of cars trying to get
around the around the roundabout - hilarious!
Then it was a final sprint to the third and last challenge, cruisers had to pick whether they were going to do Dare, Share or Go it Alone. Alone, they had to throw a ring over the pole, share they had to race the driver to the car park in a sack and dare one person had to throw a water balloon while other caught it.
Well done Locky ...
Some gave up the sack and started to run, as Bay Rodders hurtled water balloons at them for cheating...
After the third challenge it was time to stop, relax, allow some people time to dry off, have a drink and thank Leanne Milne and Lynne Paton for a wonderful run - fantastic job ladies. Everyone then went there separate ways to prepare for the evening, Kim Poynton who had to race home and finish sewing her dress for the evening. rmal
