4th July 2011 Independence Day Run

While the US celebrated Independence Day in balmy twenty degree temperatures; hardy car lovers in Tauranga braved a cool seven degrees last night.

Despite some how not getting this event into the Petrolhead mag, about 25 cars met and left the Bay Park stadium 6 o'clock last night to celebrate Independence Day and more importantly their American cars - so not a bad turnout.

The run was to be lead by Wayne through Papamoa....

But somebody should have given Wayne a map, GPS or navigator, as he detoured half the cruise up a dead end cul-de-sac - "Geez Wayne" - there's a fine!

But more amazing half the cruise followed him?!? Poor Phil in his Cadillac with no power steering was guna need a six pack and a cut lunch before he was going to get out of that tight spot ... more fines for all those that followed .... Phil, Stu..... we know who you are....

So then the cruise leadership was taken on by Buck in his Cougar through the Mount and Tauranga.

In shot below, I was driving an American car, so I felt I should make use of the right lane, so Den could get some decent shots ... ooops no fine it was for a good cause - please!

Going up Devonport Road, my passengers and I were tempted to jump out and issue a civil infringement to the lovely male and female police officers parked the wrong way while they ordered their sushi, as you can see from the photo, they had to park that way, there weren't that many parks at that time of night??  Naughty officers, that's a REAL fine!!

Eventually the cruise all congregated at World's End Fraser Cove, thanks to Buck in the photo below, also thanks to Kim pictured here with Buck; for letting Cam and his staff know we were coming, and having them ready to feed us and quench our thirsts.

It was great seeing those cars flying the American flag and Kim and Lynne wearing their American Jackets skilfully made by Kim.

Once everyone was feed, and had caught up with friends, they slowly went on their merry way, and only then did we encounter a few drops of rain, another great run and I'll see you on the 4th July 2012, if you don't see me first ...Cathi
