Bay Rodders 2011 News Chrome: Hampton Downs 27 and 27 February 2011 Friday night after work, we rocked up to Meremere to camp the night with other Bay Rodders. The idea was to catch up, have a good night sleep, and be at Chrome just down the road by 9 o’clock for a briefing as judges for:
We had an awesome night catching up over a few brews and playing Bop It! A new game that Claire and Deano bought to the camp site to keep us all amused – and it did! Members showered our Mascot “Rod” with loads of affection as they hadn’t seen him for a while. Saturday we were as if we'd wet our beds and off to Chrome some feeling a little quicker than others. All entrant cars were positioned on display around the circuit in reverse direction and we were off to find the best of the best, on foot unlike other Bay Rodders who felt the need to bring their ride on mower, trailer and son to chauffeur them around all day? There was a huge collection of cars, and just so many gorgeous cars it was a very difficult task... Visit us on Facebook and view our Photo Gallery for more photos... The highlight for me was the burn out comp on the Saturday, with Keith Riddell doing the best I thought, but the green morri was the winner and many wagons catching on fire, notice how all the ones that caught on fire had blowers. Visit us on Facebook and view our Photo Gallery for more photos... Den and I had paid and arranged to camp at Hampton Downs that night, but the camping ground was miles away from the track and we and many others were lead to believe we would be close to the track. This was really disappointing to many, especially those who needed to feed children, and though they could walk to their tent etc. So we buggered off back to Meremere and paid to stay there the night at least we could find a shaded flat piece of ground for our camper and could have a shower, get power and watch the drags for the night, heaps better...bad luck to Scrap Palace who won the race, released his chute, but hit the wall and rolled, at least he's OK! Sunday morning after a good night we were off to Chrome again hoping it might be a bit more exciting than Saturday. But I guess it's the old saying "it is what you make it" we had a lot of fun but it wasn't so much due to Chrome, it was more due to everyone catching up and making the day fun for themselves. Sunday was quite bland and other than racing around the track (though some of us had to towed off the track) and viewing the stalls, not an awful lot happened... So we enjoyed our weekend, you get out of it what you put into it I guess, and we will be back next year....Cathi |
