Bay Rodders 2011 News

Rose and Thistle Bike and Car Show

There was a good turnout of Bay Rodders for the annual Rose and Thistle (RAT) Tavern Bike and Car Show on Sunday the 20th of March 2011.

Unfortunately Den and myself were unable to join the cruise as we were camping at Pukehina, but I hear the cruise met and then left from Bay Park at 10:30 and took the scenic route through the Mount to the tavern.  A little bird told me they were cruising at a whole 40 kmph along main beach - what's that about, that's a fine?

Anyway we met about 16 Bay Rodder cars at the tavern; which is a good turnout given Squeaks party the night before would have put some Rodders out of action, and the NZDRA National Championship Series finals at Meremere were on this same day.

Despite getting shit about having our camper with us, it proved to be the most handy hanging for the Bay Rodders flag (photo 1) as someone forgot the poles - honestly when you hear the full story about the flag and the poles, I'd say Bay Rodders shouldn't think too much, they should just leave them in their boots and go - sounds like another fine is in there too?

Once we all parked up and caught up we were off to register as either Vintage, Hot Rod, Classic or Muscle Cars, poor Den he registered in his own category 67 RS Camaro and Camper and still he didn't win a prize - never mind honey.

It was great to see Ken Holland debuting his 52 chev sedan (photo 2) - it looked awesome!  It was great to see Grant and Lisa in the HotPop (photo 3 and 4) - more pops in the family - I wonder if Lisa and Leanne would like POP out with Ross Chaytor sometime - ha ha!

After registering some of us went off to Stars and Stripes for a lovely feed of bacon, sausages, eggs, and hash browns for only $9 bucks - I would highly recommend this breakfast, except for our Cam who is a bit of a Stars and Stripes connoisseur, having frequented the establishment many times, and so he went for the Texas burger which would feed a small family, so if you're starving I would recommend the Texas burger.  Others though par-took of the wonderful service offered at the RAT, and one in particular never moved the whole day from her seat (she said she couldn't) after 6 or more bourbons - there's a fine aye Jackarse?

As for the Gnome the Bay Rodders mascot (photo 5), Bay Rodder members took turns, keeping their eye on him, because of a few people have decided they don't like the mascot - what is that about, it's a mascot?? I've heard, they have threatened to kidnap and harm him, don't think I don't know who you are, and if anything happens to Gnome, don't think I'll take it lying down!  It's a mascot for heavens sake get a life and find something better to do with your time!

Everyone enjoyed the day, it was a good turn out and well run, no complaints.  Thankfully Grant and Lisa who left POPPED back as they took out the Hot Rod Class in their HotPop and I managed to take out the Muscle Car Class; so a successful day for Bay Rodders.
