Tauranga Street Machines and Customs Show

In true Bay Rodders style 17 cars and 20 odd members showed up from 9am onwards at Baypark ready to head off to the Tauranga SM&C show, showing great commitment to be out in very bleak, cold windy weather.

About 9.45 we headed off on our way. Phil in his Caddie led, taking us into the Mount end of Newton Rd. This was great as we got to regroup and head into the show in convoy, looking quite impressive.  Also the local Filthy Few Club turned up with their bikes, this made great viewing.

We parked up registered then decided breakfast was in order so we walked down, with a few “are we there yet” from some, to the Back Porch Café at Central Parade. Food was great as was the coffee. Then we headed back to have a walk around and catch up friends and other entrants we knew.

The youngest Ponyton kept us fed with Double Chocolate cookies. Her thinking was that if she shared then she wouldn’t be eating the whole packet herself, so would not get into trouble for doing so.

When the weather got the better us some headed inside for a few drinks. At one stage Garth decide the youngest Ponyton child was getting too fidgety so thought it best to tie her to the chair with Lynne’s scarf to keep her still.

A couple of the girls (Jackie and Kim) decided a go on the pokies was in order – Jackie losing a few bucks and Kim winning a hundred – Good on ya Kim.

This came in handy at auction time as Kim decided she was going home with the signed ‘Roy Brizio’ sign, driving the bidding up and her determination paid off,  as she walked away with the sign in hand for Dave’s Bar.

At about 3pm prize giving was held with Bay Rodders doing very well, taking out 6 of the 12 prizes and Phil winning one of the raffles.

  • Best Ford: Chris Forlong with his Ford Mercury
  • Best Chev: Chris Dawson with his Chevy 2dr Wagon
  • Best Other: Keith Riddell with his Buick Electra
  • Iron Maiden: Kim Ponyton with her Chevy Impala
  • Best Mopar: Garth Paton with his Chrysler Imperial

The People’s Choice was won by Kenny with his Impala Coupe – Sambuka and the Hard Luck award went to Johnny Ellis from the Sopranos for hitting a concrete wall on his way to the show. Maybe little too much the night before!!  Best commercial went to Matt Elliot with his 79 Chevy Pick Up.
